It can be a challenge for any company to adopt new technologies. To better support clients with video remote interpreting (VRI) technology implementations, InDemand Interpreting partnered with Slalom. Slalom is a purpose-driven consulting firm that helps companies solve business problems and build for the future. Working with Slalom, InDemand evolved our thinking from a focus on change management to adoption effectiveness. While it may sound like semantics, the nuances behind the words proved to be a game-changer for us and our healthcare clients.
Most clinicians and administrators now recognize that video remote interpreting (VRI) enables clinicians to provide greater language access for limited English proficient (LEP), Deaf and hard of hearing (HOH) patients, improving clinician effectiveness and patient satisfaction. The key to achieving those desired results lies in the skillful implementation of VRI. At InDemand, we saw some clients thrive when adopting VRI whereas other clients struggled to efficiently achieve their desired outcomes.
Our partnership with Slalom has illuminated a few critical aspects of adoption effectiveness, which is why we created a five-part blog series to provide insight into what we learned through the journey. During the coming weeks, we’ll highlight a few of the most essential elements of true adoption effectiveness so other leaders might leverage these same ideas within their own organizations.
Priorities for Adoption Effectiveness
As healthcare administrators know, implementing a new technology in a healthcare environment can be challenging. Healthcare organizations face many obstacles including the challenge of meeting the communication needs of an ever-growing, diverse patient population, changing regulations and the need to embrace technology to bridge the gaps in language access. The ongoing shift from volume-based to value-based care has had a positive impact on healthcare across the board, but requires changes in behaviors, processes and the use of technology.
